    Blellow is a social networking community developed to encourage participation from freelancers and creative professionals by answering the question “What are you working on?”

Following Users and Privacy

    What does it mean to “Follow” a user on Blellow.com?

    Following users on Blellow means you will receive their status updates on your Blellow.com homepage, and it will allow you to interact directly with that person by posting replies or assisting them in projects

    How do I know who I am following, or who is following my updates?

    On your profile page in the left sidebar under "MY STATS" you will see "Followers" and "Following." Clicking either of these links will bring you to a page displaying avatars of users that are following you or you are following.

    How do I follow a user?

    You can either click on a user's profile name on their status update or reply, or to follow users back that are following you navigate to the "Followers" page and hover over the icons. A gray "Follow" button will appear over users you are not following allowing you to quickly subscribe without leaving the page.

    How do I unfollow a user?

    You can navigate to the user's page and click the "Remove" link next to their avatar, or on the "Following" page hover over the user's picture and click the red "X" that appears in the upper right corner.

    Who reads my updates?

    When you make a status update, it is posted to the public feed and is available to anyone following your account to read. You can restrict access to the public feed or users by adjusting the privacy settings on your profile.

Kudos

    What are “Kudos”?

    Kudos is the system developed by Blellow.com to reward helpful and active users of the social community. Popularity on Blellow is not measured by how many users follow your updates, but how helpful you are with others. As other users post questions, projects, or problems, users have the ability to reply and try to contribute. The original poster can then reward a “Kudos” to the person who helped them the most.

    How do I know how many Kudos I have recieved?

    On your profile page in the left sidebar under “My Stats” lists how many Kudos you have received. Clicking on the Kudos links will give you a list of who gave it to you and what topic/thread was associated with it (Coming soon). The number of Kudos you have received also appears in the lower right corner of your avatar on your profile page and the home page.

    Are Kudos enabled in every post?

    On default, no. Sometimes you just want to post a status update describing what you are working on that doesn’t necessarily require feedback or suggestions. You will have to enable Kudos on posts where you are asking for help by selecting the “I need help” check box beneath the posting box.

    How do I award a Kudos to a user?

    After you post a status update on Blellow, when a user replies you can award them a Kudos by hovering over their reply. In the lower right corner you will see several icons: Reply, Delete, and Kudos. Simply click the “thumbs up” icon that represents a Kudos and it will award it to that user.

    How many Kudos can I give?

    You can give out as many Kudos as you like, but only one per thread/conversation. The idea is to reward the person who helped you the most in the thread.

    How do I know if a status update is Kudos enabled?

    A Kudos enabled post will be highlighted by a link pink background to make it stand out from the other status updates. Once the Kudos has been rewarded, it will change the background back to the normal status update color.

    What is an @Reply?

    @Replies are ways to respond to someone in the public timeline. By using the @ symbol, followed by the username, it will notify that user that there is a reply to them. Example: "@blellow Hello!" would direct a message or reply to the user with the name "Blellow."

    How do I reply to another users comment or thread?

    Hover over the message or status update and click on the right-pointing arrow. This will immediately start a new message in your status update box and add the @ reply (example: @blellow). If you are viewing Blellow in the “Threaded view” mode, your reply will appear directly below the status update or the last reply in the thread. You can also reply just by typing the @ symbol followed by the person’s name.

    Can I delete replies and status updates?

    You may only delete your own status updates and replies in other threads. To delete a post or reply of yours, hover over your post and click the "Trash can" icon.

    Can I attach images or files to my status updates?

    Yes, because we are involved with the creative community many times people will ask for reviews or opinions on projects they are working on so we wanted to include a way to show screenshots, mockups, etc.

    What kind of files can I attach to my status messages and replies?

    Many popular file extensions are supported in attachments. Images: JPEG, GIF, PNG. Documents: PDF, Word Documents, TXT files.

    Why is there a 300 character limit on status updates?

    Most microblog systems offer anywhere between 140 and 500 character limits on status updates. This is to encourage short updates rather than longer posts seen on Blogs, hence the term "Microblog." Quick questions and quick answers.

Private Messaging

    I would like to send a message to a user, but don’t want it in the public timeline. How can I do this?

    Blellow offers private messaging, but you must follow the person you are messaging and they must follow you back to enable the functionality. To send a user a PM (private message), navigate to their profile and click the “send message” button.

    How do I view all private messages sent to and from me?

    On the left sidebar, eclick on the “Private Messages” link. On this page will display all PM’s sent to you, and if you click the “Sent” tab it will display the message that you have sent to others.

    How do I delete a private message?

    Hover over the message that was sent to you and you will see icons similar to the public timeline. Click on the trash can icon and the message will be removed. Once deleted, you cannot undo so make sure you want to delete the message.

    Groups are separated threads organized by topic, such as Photoshop, Web Designers, Entrepreneurs, and more. By joining a Group you can immediately interact with other members without having to follow anyone.

    What’s the difference in Public versus Private Groups?

    Public groups allow users outside of your followers to view your status updates, discussions, etc. Private groups have restricted access to only those that are members of the group, and any status updates or discussions will be hidden to the public view.

    How do I join a Group?

    If you find a group that you have interest in joining, navigate to the group page either by a link in a status update beginning with % (example: %psd for Photoshop), clicking the Groups tab at the top of the page and searching, or by clicking the “View All Groups” link in the left sidebar. Once you have found a group you want to join, click on the “Join Group” link underneath the group profile icon.

    How do I leave a Group?

    You can leave a group by navigating to the group page in your sidebar and then clicking the "Remove" button underneath the group avatar.

    A group I am trying to join is invite only or set to private, how do I join?

    Either contact the user via direct message or contact another user in the group to ask for an invite.

    How do I post a message to a Group?

    There are a couple ways to post to groups. You can navigate to the group you are a member of in the left sidebar, and the status message box will automatically be appended with %groupname, or you can directly type in the %groupname in the main page status box and it will auto-direct the post to the correct group.

    How do I create a Group?

    In the left sidebar underneath the “Groups” tab you will find a link to “Add Group.” Once you have created your group, you will be able to customize the group to fit the topic, including profile picture and privacy options.

    How do I add a group profile image?

    In the group settings page, you will find a dialog box that will allow you to add an image from your computer. Click Browse, upload the image . Then when you click Create My Group the image will be added to your group page.

    How do I set privacy options for groups I create?

    • Public: Allows any Blellow member to join with no further permission needed from the group owner.
    • Semi-Public: Allows any Blellow member to request permission to join, but permission must be granted by the group owner.
    • Private: These groups are by invitation only and only the group owner may invite others to join.

    Blellow users have the ability to request help for projects they are working on by posting on the Projects tab.

    What is the difference between a "Job" and a "Project"?

    Post under "Projects" if you have a one time requirement for assistance for one project. Post under "Jobs" if you have a requirement for assistance that will be for a particular period of time or for several projects. If you feel that your requirement might be a bit of both - for example, you'll be trying someone out for a project, but your goal is to form a longer term working relationship, feel free to post in both.

    Currently two types: Paid and Pro Bono. Pro Bono projects are unpaid projects meant to add to your portfolio, but may lead to further paid work depending on the project and popularity.

    A Meetup is a real-world gathering of people for networking, socializing, or just getting to know the people you interact with on social sites like Blellow.

    How do I RSVP for a Meetup?

    On the Meetup tab, click on an event that you would like to attend to get the details. Select whether you are Attending, Maybe Attending, or Not Attending. If registration is required for the event, a link will be available in the Meetup description.

    On the Meetup tab in the upper right corner, click the “POST HERE” button and enter in the details of the Meetup including Name, Description, Company involved (if any), the date, and any other pertinent details that are important for attendees.
