I am compiling a grand wishlist of features we should add to Blellow.com. If you’d like to add your thoughts, please do!

We’ll take all of this input and create a master list that we’ll prioritize, create requirements for, etc. Please send all of your ideas by EOD Sunday 3/22. :)

Thanks!

Mandi’s list:

1. ability to search all content
2. ability to see which posts are kudos enabled
3. ability to group your friends into sub-groups
4. ability to search for all of your twitter friends that are on Blellow
5. ability for you to twitter for your friends to join Blellow
6. integration w/ other networks to notify friends/family about Blellow
7. integration w/ networks to send Blellow messages to them – like twitter, friend feed, linkedin, etc
8. Blellow badge that can be placed on their blog or website app for friendfeed
9. ability to link to a post
10. favorite a post
11. add video introduction
12. swap videos in addition to text and images
13. beef up profile page, integrate w/ linkedin and other resume sites to allow user to pull that data and appear in their Blellow profile. Also, integration w/ portfolio sites and flickr to allow designers and photographers to show off their work. – I’d prefer to pull these images and show them in a Blellow branded player. Ideally it’d be similar to the apple interface when browsing image – w/ reflection and black background.
14. allow blellow members to create blogposts, whitepapers, podcasts, and videos – some will be free and some will have to be for a fee which will go to the creator. Will be like Linda.com meets wikipedia meets the app store –
15. create iPhone app – can buy whitepapers, podcasts, videos, etc and play on iPhone
16. Open up the API - pattern our API like Twitter’s to make it very easy for Twitter Apps to create a Blellow version. Would like to do this asap!
17. Allow people to send messages to Blellow from Twitter – needs to be that they can only send them if it’s work related, not just dump all tweets into Blellow feed
18. set up paid account section – $5, $10, $25/mo
19. Allow members to customize their bg pattern and link colors
20. Give more option to those looking for a job – notifications, ability to say looking for side work vs looking for full time vs looking for contractor work… etc
21. remove the password from the email confirmation – what is the best practice?
22. beef up admin area, i’ll work on wireframes, i’m interested to know what you could find to add into our control panel to make it more robust
23. admin/moderator tools – would like to give some members admin rights to a light level that would allow them to mark people as spamming and have some levity to make things happen
24. Integration w/ YouTube – ability to do live streaming video – Blellow Rep interviewing an Expert, members can chat w/ us and we’ll moderate.

List from Blellow Members: In no particular order - pls comment to this list if I forgot some!

25. brianjking You should add a URL shortener service with API such as bit.ly into blellow, also get support from Twhirl or Tweetdeck if possible.
26. jpal And iPhone Apps of course
27. marksherrick how about a block user?
28. drcraig Consider adding dates to posts and location to city/state to meetups.
29. katiemccaskey Friend-suggester based on geography, interests, email upon sign-up…etc. Love that I can easily share files. Automate sharing urls would be v. helpful, too.

30. coldacid Can’t wait until Blellow has an API. Putting Blellow in the sidebar or Visual Studio, so it’s always accessible, would be a DREAM. RSS feeds would be a good start, though.
31. seankstewart instead of opening links into a new window, maybe have a lightbox popup giving the user the option to do so? Similar to a “you are leaving Blellow” message?
32. dreamleaf it would be quite nice to have a ‘post count’ in the left hand listings of groups. so rather than actually having to select the group to see if there are any messages, it alerts you. Another way could be to view “all group posts”
33. kimbeasley It would be great to have a tab that shows you who not following you that you are following. Also it would be good to have a check or a graphic on the follower pictures that are new followers.
34. kimbeasley I don’t know if this has been brought up but I was wondering if there was a way to tell who has given you a Kudo.

35. barthoekstra I would also like to see some sorting functions for groups. At the moment there is only sorting on categories. But I would like to exclude the private groups, sort by amount of members, sort by activity etcetera.

36. barthoekstra I would love to see on what topic someone replied me in the Replies menu. Now I know someone replies to me but it is hard to find out on what topic that was.
37. avatar696314 what about a search/filter feature when you ask for help? the filter would ping keywords in your problem and msg “pro’s” with that experience (voluntarily). This would help when someone signs on 2 days later & may be the only one with a solution to someone’s problem from days ago…wdyt?
38. azwebdesign When on a user’s profile, it would be great to have a comment form to instantly send a message to that particular user rather than having to navigate to “home” and then posting.

39. dreamleaf group categories can currently be duplicated, ie. I’m in 2 groups called Photoshop… maybe when choosing a name it should check for uniqueness
40. ryanminnick would like to see a bit more of a ‘how to’ set-up for Blellow Accounts - would make much more sense for those coming from other services, and those new to blellow in general

  • Interesting post. I have made a twitter post about this. My friends will enjoy reading it also.
  • Thank you so much for all of the great ideas. Here's the list that will be implemented first (within the next 1-3 weeks)

    * Open up the API - pattern our API like Twitter’s to make it very easy for Twitter Apps to create a Blellow version.
    * ability to search all content - we're talking w/ a search company now about integrating and that should give us really advanced search capability
    * ability to search for all of your twitter friends that are on Blellow
    * integration w/ address book and other networks to notify friends/family about Blellow
    * Ability to add a Blellow badge to your blog or website
    * RSS for groups
    * Form in projects and jobs form that goes to their email
    * solving the problem of group categories being duplicated
    * Add number of users, latest post to the group descriptions to group info
    * integration w/ networks by integrating with Ping.fm
    * ability to favorite and link to a post
    * Switch to from S3 to cloud files
    * File Management - ability to manage all files uploaded to Blellow
    * Ability for members to list most social networks they belong to - icons for each that is listed will show up on your profile w/ a link
    * Notifications - can opt to receive email when someone replies to your post
  • Simple but effective. Add actual hyperlinks to the update emails I get when someone starts following me. I'm lazy and I like clicking links. Give me a link to view the person that just followed me.

I'd imagine it would increase the % of people that login to the site upon reading those emails.
  • I would love to see the option to allow posts to be seen in multiple groups. For example, whataboutki posted a question to the apple group about windows 7 and bootcamp, and he meant it for the windows group as well, but only the first group tag was picked up by the group, although the link to the windows group was also active.

In the even that a user changed their screen name, it'd be cool if all their prior posts would be re-attributed to their new name.
  • I'd love to see integration with twitter. What I mean is, have a way of making sure that all my twitter followers automatically follow me on blellow cause girl, it is hard work :)

Also I'd like to know if you are available for interview.

That you are a woman having created a social site that is a force to reckon with is awesome. Think of it as preparation for Oprah :)

No seriously I want to bring the women audience up to par with your awesomeness.

In to finding Twitter followers on Blellow, Facebook connect is also an option you should think about implementing.

Also, regarding Twitter, you should allow cross posting. For example. When I post something on Blellow, I should have the option to send something to Twitter along the lines of "I just posted a project on Blellow. Check it out." The message should be customizable. It helps the user and you by potentially bringing more people to Blellow.

For Meetups, you should think about leveraging the Meetup.com api and their existing users. Letting users create new events on Blellow through Meetup will likely draw more people to Blellow. Freelancers Union also partnered with Meetup. Any meetup group that was listed under the freelance category was sponsored by Freelancers Union, and each individual Meetup had a Freelancer's Union logo on it. That's something you could think about keeping awareness flowing.

    That's all for now :-)
  • 1. Tools geared toward greater collaboration in projects.

    2. Filters on the job page, particularly for location. Also, sortable columns.

    3. Flagging tools for moderation of job/project postings.

    4. Organization / filters for the groups page.
  • Not sure if this is in the works but with the ability to make jobs groups and what not make sure there is someone (I would do it) to confirm that they are real and not just scams.
